Our work
At Ixchel, we work with a comprehensive, ethical, and culturally relevant approach to health care to support people on their journey toward fully exercising their right to health.

We do this through three key strategies:
Health support
We transform the experience of those who are going through complex health processes or face barriers to accessing medical services.

Lines of action

Health promotion:
We design and facilitate workshops on key health topics. We disseminate accessible and culturally appropriate content that empowers people to take care of their well-being.

Medical advice:
We provide in-person and telephone medical advice.

Facilitation of medical care routes:
We provide in-person and remote logistics. We research and map public and private healthcare services, and develop customized pathways for timely and appropriate care.

Case management in high vulnerability contexts:
We assist people facing serious illnesses such as cancer or kidney failure. We facilitate procedures, medical supplies, home visits, and emotional support for both patients and their care networks.

Building institutional alliances:
We signed agreements with hospitals and other institutions to facilitate care, improve collaboration, and manage cases more effectively within public services.

Intercultural communication
We promote the right to health based on linguistic and cultural diversity, building bridges between health systems and Indigenous communities.

Lines of action

Health interpretation in indigenous languages:
We have healthcare interpreters in public hospitals who assist indigenous language speakers in public hospitals. We train and professionalize them and develop indicators to evaluate their impact.

We support the translation of materials into native languages:
We create health content translated into Indigenous languages, with the participation of hospital staff. These materials reinforce access to clear, culturally relevant, and understandable information.

Strengthening the intercultural management model:

Influence on public policies
We work so that local transformations in health are consolidated as public policies that guarantee the right to health for all people.

Lines of action

Legislative proposals:
We promote initiatives to recognize and institutionalize the figure of the health interpreter as a right for indigenous language speakers.

Interinstitutional collaboration:
We participated in roundtables with health authorities, political actors and allied organizations to improve health care practices.

Documentation and dissemination of best practices:
We systematize successful experiences in case management, institutional alliances and interpreter training, contributing to a sustainable improvement of the public health system.
Bases of our work

Rights approach
We understand health as a human right and we seek that the State, through its institutions, guarantees equitable access to quality health services free from any form of discrimination.

Gender approach
We recognize the sex-gender system as a structure that generates inequalities in access to health and influences the health-disease process. We seek in our work to question and not reproduce patriarchal practices.

Social determinants of health
We consider all social, economic, environmental and cultural factors that influence people's health, recognizing health gaps as a result of inequitable power structures.

Systemic change
We promote collaboration among institutions, communities and sectors to address problems in a comprehensive manner, maximizing existing resources.

Interculturality
We respect people's cultural, social and linguistic strategies and activities related to disease care and health conception.
